Feb 5, Wed. P.3 1. The Vancouver Industrial Committee had held a meeting on Monday to discuss the issues of immigration, work and unemployment. Many who were present were against East Asians and they decided to hold a joint meeting on Feb. 7 with the City Council. The committee members thought that .- the East Asian workers would exploit the job opportunities of the returning soldiers. Alderman was scared that many Chinese soldiers who were serving in France would choose to reside in Canada which might result in more disastrous economic problems. He thus thought that exclusion of East Asian workers was essential. However, another Alderman thought that East Asians should be given equality and he warned against any radical activities against them. 2. 20 Chinese gamblers were arrested in 126 E. Fender. They were fined $20 each. 3. 4 Chinese opium smokers in Victoria were fined $17.50 each.
