Description
August 22 1-3 1) There was usually an annual agricultural exhibition in Vancouver. The exhibition of this year had started on August 19 in Hasting Park. In addition to the exhibition, there was also an amusement corner in which there was a booth which stated 'a tour of Chinatown1. The content of this booth were sax models of Chinese gamblers, opium smokers and various ungraceful characters. There were also speeches made to derogate the Chinese residents as well as Chinatown. Ambassador Wong immediately gave protest to the exhibition supervisor, the American Consulate, and the Mayor. He demanded immediate disposal of the booth. (It was reported that the wax models were from San Francisco). (+ August 23 P.3.
