- Description
- August 19 .3 1) The Ghee Kong long in Victoria announced on August 18 that the association had sent and to Calgary for making speeches and supervising the associational affairs. However, and were against that and they even sued . A general meeting was thus called for on Spetember 1st to discuss this issue. 2) The Chief immigration office gave a letter to Ambassador Yeung stressing that the inspection of nationalities on August 1st and the registration on June 22nd were organized in order to draft Canadian citizens only. The Canadian govern- ment had no intention of enlisting any Chinese immigrants. It was thus hoped that the overseas Chinese should stop sending letters back to China and spreading rumors of drafting among Chinese residents. The immigration office hoped the Chinese immigrants who were still in China would not be scared off and refuse to return to Canada.
