- July 20 p.2 1) The CBA Van. announced on July 20 that the association had decided to use the old voting method for elections. However, there were only a few candidates registered for the July 27th election. Moreover, Chee Kong Tong and had requested the CBA to set a day beforethe election to decide on the election system. So, the CBA assigned July 21 to be the day for discussion; it was hoped that the Chinese community culd reppond to it enthusiastically. (The 2 requests by Chee Kong Tong and were posted for reference. Chee Kong Tong requested the CBA to use the last year's proposals by and Ning Yeung association as referred to alter the election system. in the letter attacked CBA of not consenting to the popular votes during the executive meeting and adopting thelocality representation system. 2) The mayor had received a letter from the Shingle United Association to accuse the gambling atmosphere of Chinese workers. The letter stated that the Chinese workers wasted too much time on gambling and neglecting work. Thus, the shingle companies were having difficulty in finding workers. It was thus decided that the police would clear out gambling in Vancouver. 3) A Chinese was arrested for keeping opium. He was put into prison for 3 months and given $250 fine. If he had no money, he would stay in prison for extra 3 months.
