May 6 P.3 1) The Sun reported that there was a petition from a group of Chinese to expose the defects of the gambling atmosphere in Chinatown. The copies of th petition were circulated among the Chinese population. The content was about the popularity of gambling among the Chinese might lead to various criminal offenses. There were about 40 gambling joints with more than 300 professional gamblers in Chinatown area. In order to attract more customers, the joints even put up advertising. This might mean moral disintegration. The petitioners hoped that measures would be taken to close gambling joints and improve the image of Chinatown.
