- February 11 . P.3 1) The Mail and Empire News in Toronto reported that the Toronto City Council had suggested not to issue business licenses to those who were not Canadian citizens, or not born in Canada. The Chinese laundromats and restaurants were thus in danger of being closed down. Ambassador Yeung together with the merchant reps, went to argue the case with the chairman of the city council on Jan. 30. Ambassador Yeung asserted that Chinese were the allies in the European war and they should be respected. However, nothing was negotiated, and the result had to be waited for at the next city council meeting. The Daily news in Toronto also gave a smiliar report. The election for Chee Kong Tong in New Westminster. The Chee Kong Tong in Cumberland announced on Feb. 11 that 6 additional exe- cutives were elected on Feb. 2nd. The association reported that there had been 4 meetings held between Jan. 2 and Feb. 2 whereby 74 new members were admitted into the association. The association in Cumberland had now more than 400 members, was always the chairman for each meeting.
