Description
February 6 P.3 1) Previsouly there was an alderman in Montreal who suggested to impose heavy taxation on Chinese restaurant owners, laundromat owners, and white dancing halls. The proposal was officialy brought up in the city council, but the amount of tax was only $50 and only applied to restaurants, dancing halls, etc. Laundromats were exempt from such a law. Ambassador Yeung was in Montreal on Jan. 20 to discuss the case and since Chinese restaunants in Montreal amounted to 1/3 of the total business, they would join with the white restauranters to fight for more efficient results.
