February 2 P.3 1) The Asiatic Pass agent of the CPOS ( ) announced on Feb. 1 that due to the European War, the ship tickets agents had purposely raised the cost/ ticket. In order to safeguard the passengers, the co. altered the regulation and allowed sh<p tickets to be sold to anyone who could produce a serial paper from the Canadian immigration office. Thus all themiddle men could be eliminated and the Chinese passengers did not need to pay extra money. (The Co. was the office for the sales of the tickets.) P.3 2) An elderman in Vancouver as well as an MLA of BC were against the entrance of E. Asian farm workers. He thought that they would do harm to the country instead of bringing advantage. 3) 2 whites were arrested for keeping cocaine and morphine (worth $200). One was fined $250 or 6 months in jail, the other $100 or 2 months in jail. 4) 30 Chinese were arrested for gambling (Jan. 1 P.3), the head was fined $25, and the others were fined $10.
