Description: January 16 P.3 1) Ambassador Yeung had tried to investigate the case about $500 tax (Jan.11) and he was in Montreal CBA on Jan. 6 to discuss the case with Montreal merchants. On Jan. 8 he went to the mayor who guaranteed that the proposal was only a sug- gestion in the paper, and was not valid. Thus a Iwayer was hired to defend the Chinese if the proposal was really brought up in city council.
