January 11 P.3 1) News from Mantreal: there was an elderman who suggested imposing heavy taxes on all commercial companies or stores, so that more money could be raised for war expenses. He suggested that each Chinese restaurant or laundromat should pay $500 tax. The CBA immediately held a meeting for all the Chinese merchants to defend their rights. A lawyer was hired to investigate the case but it was latfer discovered that theproposal had not even been brought up in the city council meeting.
