Description: August 17th, Friday P.3 1. Ambassador Lira sent an announcement on August 16 to ask the Vancouver Chinese to organize a combined tea party with the white community so that the white public would understand that the Chinese were their allies in the European war. (China had declared war on Germany on August 14.) Ambassador Lira hoped that such activity would foster better relationship between the Chinese and the white community. The Embassy had promised to help organize the party, but it would not offer financial support.
