- April 30th, Monday P. 3 & ^<+ 1. News from Ottawa: Cabinet Minister -g- v» fcj made a proposal in the House of Commons that Chinese students coming to Canada should be exempt from the $500 head tax. Originally all Chinese students had to give $500 head tax upon arrival in Canada. They would get the tax back when leaving Canada. 2. The Ontario provincial legislature had passed a law to cancel the law that prohibited the Chinese from employing female whites. P. 7 3. The China Mail Steamship Company announced that it would recruit more shareholders (each share $21) . There was a brief report on the conditions of the company. In Vancouver there were quite a lot of agents for collecting money for shares (eg. 9 22 j-L o t - 5'r \ f and etc.
