Description
June 22nd, Thursday P. 3 On 21st, the License Committee of the City Council had held a meeting to exclude East Asian workers from the hotel and restaurant business. They proposed to carry out their exclusion act on December 3rd. However, the Japanese ambassador who was present in the meeting immediately protested. He claimed that such an act would endanger the friendly relationship between Japan and Canada. The City Council then became hesitant and decided to hold an extra-ordinary meeting on June 27th to discuss the case. (The Chinese Ambassador did not take action in the city council meeting.
