June 2nd, Friday P. 3 (1) 43 gamblers were arrested at 102 East Pender. The owner of the joint was fined $100 and the others $25. (2) News from Toronto: The Chee Kong Tong in Toronto had over $1,000 official funds stored in the bank. Upon request of the Chinese government, they planned to send the money back for war funds in meeting on April 30th. However a few members of the Kuomingtong demanded that the fund should be sent to Tokyo for Dr. Sun Yat Sen. Consequently, another meeting was to be held on May 2nd. However 200 members of the Kuomingtong came to the meeting and stole the money. They eventually sent the money to Tokyo for Dr. Sun. (3) 34 gamblers were arrested in Winnipeg. The head was fined $100 while the others were fined $10. (4) The Chinese hawkers in Victoria were prohibited from buying wine bottles from the whites. Originally, the Chinese hawkers could re-sell the collected wine bottles or used clothing for a small profit. Now the whites collected wine bottles themselves and re-sold them. The profit was given to the Red Cross.
