April 14th. Friday P.3 (1) The issue of discrimination against East Asian hotel workers was brought up in the city council meeting. \^ wffi (M.P.) asserted that the city council had no authority to chase out East Asian workers, and the case should be brought up to the provincial legislative meeting. However the Mayor 7» *Q $T\_ was against it. He f fif said that the city council could establish a by-law and he added that no license should be issued to hotels which still employed East Asian workers in the next year. The Japanese Ambassador immediately sent in a protest and the issue was suspended for discussion in the next meeting. (2) The Chinese crewmen on the C.P.R. ships were taught English by a special teacher. Consequently, they would be able to pass any examination in the States'harbours which required all crewmen to know English. * /Art P.3 13) Earlier in the year, a Chinese ( ^7 ) was accused of putting poison in Coffee for the customers. The Ghee Kong Tong, upon the request of his friends, helped to defend ^7 in conjunction with Ambassador Li (TV In the middle of March, Ambassador Leou sent a delegate to Kamloops to assist and defend the case. The result was that fif was released. Without the Chee Kong Tong and the Ambassador^ %j might have been convicted. Announced on the 14th that the amendments on the constitution were completed and the headquarter had issued the membership cards. It was hoped that all members would go to get his own membership card.
