- Description
- April 12th, Wednesday P. 3 (1) The English newspaper always accused that there were tong wars in Chinatown, eg. on Shanghai Street, a group of armed Chinese broke into a house to start fighting with the owners. But when the police came, they all ran away. The English newspaper then exaggerated the case by sticking the term tong war onto this incident. (2) An opium salesman was arrested and he was charged either $100 or 4 months in prison. 3 other smokers were also arrested. They were fined either $25 or 2 months in prison. It seemed that the judge had increased the punishment for the offenders.
