- February 14th, Monday P.3 (1) There were 6 laws passed in the meeting of the Conservative Party in District No. 7 in Vancouver. Within those 6 laws, there were 2 which were against East Asian workers. 1. to dismiss all East Asian workers from the saw mill. 2. all coal mining companies in Vancouver Island had to dismiss foreigners. (2) A liberal party candidate made a discriminatory speech against the East Asians. He criticized the East Asian workers for exploiting the white workers and suggested that it would be the best time to chase them out of work. (3) 11 Chinese were charged for smoking opium. They were either fined $24.50 or 2 months in prison. (4) 40 gamblers were arrested at 45 Pender.
