- Description
- May 31st, Monday P.3 (1) The C.B.A. and Chinese Coi.ir.mnity in Montreal announced that the Provincial Legislature had passed the restrictive law against the Chinese laundrymen. This meant that in Mortreal, all the Chinese laundromats had to pay $50. tax in addition to the $50. license fee, and in Quebec City, $4^ tax. There was ciiso $5- registration fee too. The white laundrymen were exempt from this law. This law was effective since May even though the Chinese community in Montreal had tried to abolish it by constant appeals. Currently meetings were held in C.B.A. to decide on counter-actions it was hoped that associations all over Canada could help by donating funds.
