Description
May 8th, Saturday P.3 (1) There were Chinese making revolutionary speeches on the street. They wanted to innovate rebellion against the Chinese government and President Yuan. On May 3rd, the City councils then decided that no speeches on the street could be made without license from the Chinese Embassy. (2) Ambassador Yeurig tried to encourage the Chinese community to support the governraent by buying the government bond. He gave the Freemason as an example and staged that due to their enthusiasm in 1912 to raise funds ( l$i ^J 'lp\ ) she was presented a Patriotic Medal by the Chinese government. This became a reputation of the Canadian Chinese, so it would be nice that they could continue to help the Chinese government. (3) The Freemason in New Westminster had held a meeting to raise funds The amount for donation was optional, however, there were 4 kinds of government bond - $5., $1C., $50., and ^100. If one had donated $2.50, he would be given one government bond. However, this kind of money raised could either be used as war fund in case of war, or it could be used for buying government bonds. e.g. \inS\,uKat had donated $1,000. * ^-j Freemason $ 100. They were able to raise $1,384.
