- February 19th. Friday P.3 (1) A letter was sent by the supervisor of the Sun Ning Railway ( _ on 14th January to raise funds for an extension of the railway in China. He asserted that 300 thousands would be needed to complete the extension, and he hoped that the associations in Vancouver would help him to recruit shareholders. P.3 (2) Due to the effect of the European War, many Chinese suffered from unemployment. Chinese welfare was being done in New Westminster, e.g. Shing Kee Store had donated 80 sacks of rice and Chong Kee Store 21 sacks for daily distribution in £-k±*~^c^ Ten-^ . The unemployed and poor Chinese could each get 1% Ib. for emergency relief. It was hoped that more stores would be willing to help in this anti-hunger drive. P.3 (3) The teacher ( ^1% &RJ ) and students in the Chinese Community School in Ottawa were against the Japanese 21 unreasonable demands* on China. They sent a telegram to President Yuan and asked him to declare war on Japan. * - Only 17 demands out of 21 were posted on February 17th and 18th issues. Since April 26th it was reported that the Japanese govern- ment had changed the 21 demands to 24 demands.
