February 9th, Tuesday P.3 (1) The white laundry men in Montreal had used a newspaper campaign on 6th February to attack Chinese laundry business. They begged the white public not to do business with the Chinese laundry men and hoped that consequently the Chinese would be chased out of Montreal. In addition they asked for a petition from the public to support their anti-Chinese campaign. The Chinese in Montreal were quite desperate and they asked for support from various well known and charitable Canadian clergymen, lawyers or doctors. The consequence was unpredictable, but right now, the Chinese laundry business had reduced drastically. (2) The United Protestant Association ( 1\f ^?L_^t' '1 ) made an announcement on February 5th to warn the executive members of various associations. The United Protestant Association said that they were always willing to donate charity fund, however, they were against the act of collecting money from the home-returning Chinese. They asserted that the executives should not bother with the members of the United Protestant Association, otherwise they would deal with them legally.
