January 27th, Wednesday P.3 (1) ^n annual meeting of the council committee aldermen and public health officers was held to discuss the sanitary problem in Chinatown. The Housing Inspectors asserted that the sanitary problem in this area had ir,proved quite a lot after the pulling down of a number of old houses (?£. J& ). Moreover, many clubs which were not up to standard were asked to close down too. However, some said that there were still gambling cluus which were operating illegally. These clubs usually had 4-5 electric doors which hid them away from the unwelconed visitors. If they were to abolish these gambling clubs or any non-hygienic living-quarters such as basements or alleys, co-operation between the government arid residents was needed. It would not be long to have a better or even perfect Chinatown if measures were to be done . P.3 (2) CW. KA-M\TPK«. in Kamloops sent arpublic announcement on the 28th of January, 1915 to the newspaper in order to arrest a Chinese ^ Kamloops resident called ^ /§?£) . He once stole a pair of shoes from a Canadian girl, and later, a pig from a Chinese girl, he even persecuted one of the Chinese residents in Kan.loops, causing him to pay a few hundred dollars unnecessary fine. Now he had fled frou Kami oops owing money to the association and his friends. It was hoped that, those who knew his hiding place would report it to the association so that measures could be done.
