January 23rd, Saturday P.3 In Toronto, the discriminatory activities against Chinese laundry- men were proceeding constantly, however, the Chinese still regained inactive in fighting for their freedom. Ambassador Yeung(fn had already sent a letter and a newspaper concerning the dis- criminatory act to the Chamber of Commerce in Toronto. He urged them to take action im; .ediately. The laundrymen were quite desperate and they planned to form an association. A few hundred dollars were raised, however, due to a few destructive persons, the association was not established. In the meantime, the Canadian laundrymen association had sponsored a parade to show their desire to fight for their business. They demanded the public not to go to Chinese laundromats. It was unfortunate that the Chinese laundrymen could not retaliate due to the lack of efficient leader- ship. Another misfortune in the Toronto Chinese community was that those destructive villains were trying to tempt the general Chinese population to re-distribute the $2,000. fund raised during the case concerning Chinese employment of female whites. The hope of building a good community with an effective C.B.A. and a Chinese school would surely go in vain.
