"The present copy is printed from a very scarce Journal issued to subscribers in 1847, under the title of 'First Corps Papers of the Royal Engineers' edited by Colonel Lewis ..."--Pref.
Half-title: Memoirs of the Siege of Quebec.
National Union Catalog pre-1956 imprints notes in its entry for an earlier edition of the manuscript (London, 1848), that the manuscript is signed "P.M." and was probably written by Patrick Mackellar, engineer-in-chief of the expedition against Quebec. G.G. Lewis attributes the work to Major James Moncrieff, but he was not commissioned until 1762 (DNB XXV 130). Cf. NUC pre-1956 imprints, volume 544, pages 398. DCB IV 501 also attributes authorship to Mackellar.
Original issued in series: Battlefield series ; numbers 2.
