There are many manuscript notes and additions to the text, apparently written by the author, and several paragraphs of additional printed text were pasted into the original.
Thomas Bridge, together with Dr. Henry Taylor of Quebec, had observed the efficacy of spruce beer as a cure for scurvy and was seeking the Admiralty' s business.
