Banks, a genealogist, prepared this work as part of his attempt to establish the title of one Alexander-Humphrys, or Humphrys, to the Earldom of Stirling and to the powers and privileges granted by Charles II to Sir William Alexander, 1567?-1640, as Baronet of Nova Scotia. By right of these powers Humphrys, or Alexander, bestowed a title and a grant of land in Nova Scotia upon Banks, which Banks, however repudiated when his patron's claims proved to be based on forgeries"--A bibliography of Canadiana / edited by Frances M.
