Earlier this year Canadiana.org made the decision to obtain certification as a Trusted Digital Repository (TDR) by means of an audit from the Center for Research Libraries (CRL), an international consortium of university, college, and independent research libraries. The main purpose of the project is to create a digital preservation system that can ensure the long-term integrity and usability of the objects in the institution’s care.
By successfully completing this audit, Canadiana.org would become the second certified TDR in Canada. The audit conforms to the guidelines contained in the TRAC checklist and evaluates repositories on three main areas: Organizational Infrastructure, Digital Object Management, and Infrastructure and Security Risk Management.
An initial informal review took place in September with positive results. Canadiana is one of five Canadian institutions intending to obtain TDR certification, the others being Scholars Portal at University of Toronto, the University of Alberta, Library and Archives Canada and Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec.
