Agriculture and Agri-food Canada digital collection now available through Canadiana.org

Recently, Canadiana.org was commissioned to develop the Canadian Agriculture Library portal to provide access to over about 10,000 pages of material from their collection- representing about 350 items and representing about 100 titles.

The Canadian Agriculture Library, which celebrated 100 years in existence, is home to one of the most comprehensive collections on agriculture and agri-food in Canada. In honour of the anniversary they undertook a project to digitize selected works from departmental publications that showcase the Canadian Department of Agriculture’s history, organization and work.

The collection covers a range of topics including the history of the Canadian Experimental Farm, overviews of farming practices in Canada over the last century, detailed histories of the Department of Agriculture, weekly radio talks given by the Dominion Department of Agriculture over the network of the then CBC radio network in 1934 and 1935, and many other fascinating topics of interest to anyone interested in Canada’s agricultural past.

All of the articles are also accessible directly through the Canadiana Discovery Portal.
