This painting depicts a scene from the Fifth Pageant of the Historical
Pageants on the Plains, National Celebration at Québec, 1908.
The Bishop Montmorency de Laval, representative of Catholicism
in Canada, receives the King's representative, the Marquis de
Tracy, and his suite. This painting is one of six by Craig produced
as illustrations for the book The King's Book of Québec, published
in Ottawa by Mortimer Co. Limited, 1911, prepared by Dr. Doughty
