September 10, 2012
The September 2012 issue of Family Tree Magazine names Canadiana.org in its 101 Best Websites for Genealogy.
For the second straight year, Family Tree Magazine has named Canadiana.org one of the 101 Best Websites for Genealogy. Canadiana collects and shares all types of records, including Canada's historical newspapers, magazines, books, and images, making it a perfect starting point for those researching local history or genealogy.
Six Canadian websites, including Canadiana foundation member Library and Archives Canada, were recognized as places to "discover, preserve and celebrate your roots." Emphasizing Canadiana's role as a national aggregator of content, Family Tree declares:
It’s now even easier to search this site’s [ the Canadiana Discovery Portal ] 60 million-plus pages from libraries, museums, universities and government agencies: The 12-year-old Early Canadiana Online collection is getting a makeover with improved searching and navigation.
The Canadiana Discovery Portal and Early Canadiana Online have traditionally served the scholarly community. However, as the content on these services has grown and searching tools improved, their popularity has soared with people interested in local or Canadian history or who are researching family history. Individuals, emulating the scholars and researchers who built these collections, can now access thousands of local and national historical publications, going back to Confederation and beyond.
